"Chatting W/ L's"Young Rell (cont.)

2Ls: There is alot of work that comes with being in the music industry. What keeps you going?

Rell: The will to win , the love for music and specifically , the hip hop genre as a whole , all the while proving the nay sayers wrong in the process . I know there are alot of people depending on me . I've invested too much into my music to give up now . There's no turning back . I've gotta finish what I started .

2Ls: You recently gave everyone a sample of what was to come with your "Im Gone" freestyle. What can we expect from your next project?

Rell: That was just me displaying my versatility and going in on production that I enjoyed . Its apart in that 16 (bars) where I get my Bone Thugs ['N Harmony] on so to speak and I speed it up but then I slow it back down all in the same verse . I also leaked another joint "Exclusive" off my debut album "The Come Up" . Not to sound cliche' but there is something on this project for everyone . I wanted to create a project that wasn't redundant , or something you'd get tired of before you get through the whole CD because everything sounds the same , or because it sounds like everything that's already out. Instead , I wanted to create something that you could play from front-to-back , all the way through . "The Come Up" is something you can clean your house to , take a road trip to , smoke to or listen to while you're riding around handling your everyday business . I pushed myself creatively while still being Rell . I wanted my debut album to be something you can play five to 10 years from now and it still be relevant...for it still to make sense in the future as well as bangin then too because the sound is timeless . I am proud of this album , I've worked very hard on it and really dug in . Two-time Grammy award winning producer , Shannon Sanders produced the album in its entirety . "The Come Up" is my first album , but it's symbolic of being my 1rst package that's gonna allow me to change my situation and hopefully others around me for the better . When my team and I look back , this will be a soundtrack for how we came up .

2Ls: Who are some of your favorite artists in the game right now ?

Rell: Jay-Z,Andre 3k,Eminem,T.I.P , Lil Wayne / Nas it's a toss up for that fifth spot depending on what day it is . But I listen to a large variety of music genres . I've been riding to Cold Plays "Viva La Vida" since it dropped two summers ago as well as Lady Gagas "The Fame" . I love what N.E.R.D is doin for music as well as Curren$y , Wiz Khalifa , Rick Ross and Kanye .

2Ls: Has music always been your known talent?

Rell: Well, my whole life I have played sports . To me music and sports went hand in hand. I was smart enough to realize I was better at putting words together and that I'd have a better chance of traveling for shows than traveling with a professional sports team. Wait.....does being a class clown count as talent ?

2Ls: How do you feel about the adversity of the music culture?

Rell: Honestly, I think it's great there is a lane and opportunity for everyone in music now . With the Internet and everything going digital you don't necessarily need a huge record label to be heard or to get your music out there . It's goin back to the days of independents like No Limit , the Rap-A-Lots , Cash Money and Suave House....being able to make alot of money because there is no cut to be paid to a middle man . Although there's two sides to everything , the downside is that the market is over-saturated because people think it's very easy to do (like Jadakiss told Biggie , " Its easy, Big all you need is a Pro Tools set ! ") . They are mistaken , so therefore there's alot of garbage music out there as well as a result . It's tough because people have to cipher through alot of trash to get to the good music on the net . For hip hop fans like myself that makes it that much more fun because when you do find a great artist , you are proud because you weren't lazy . Chances are , you took the time to go through a ton of whack music to find something worth listening to . That's where being yourself proves to be so vital because most music now is a derivative of something someone else is already doing , which in turn makes their music watered down from the start . They're afraid to be themselves and are just playing "follow the leader" . People end up following a fad or trend , but trends fade and so will they[the artists], because they have no roots or foundation to stand on . So when artist are genuine and you can honestly tell, they stand out and people gravitate to them ; fans tend to hold onto them & their work . It's awesome . A lot of people cry and whine about illegal downloads and the decrease in music sales, but I just say embrace it and find what works for you . There are plenty of ways to get paid if you're willing to put in the work to make it happen .

2Ls: Where do you see yourself and your career in the next five years?

Rell: As simple as it sounds......successful . I'm willing to bet that even 10 years from now , I'll be in someone's studio or on my way to someones venue to rock that bitch . I also want to be a great business man and I think music will be the door to a variety of opportunities for me . Whether it be a dope clothing line , a feature film , a real estate broker...or what have you .

2Ls: Whats in your iPod right now?

Rell: Wiz Khalifa's "Flight School" , Curren$y's "This Aint No Mixtape" , Dom Kennedy's "From The West Side With Love" , Rick Ross's "Albert Anastasia" EP ("B.M.F." goes sooo Hard fam) , Kendrick Lamar's "Kendrick Lamar " LP , Cold Play's "Viva La Vida" , Chip Tha Ripper's "The Cleveland Show" , Eminem's "The Recovery" ,Big Krit's "Krit Wuz Here" , Jay-Z's "Blueprint 2", Kid Cudi's "Man On The Moon" , The Cool Kids's "Gone Fishing" , Joe Budden's "Mood Muzik 3" and the advanced copy of Young Rell's "The Come Up" just to name a few.
2Ls: Anything else you'd like the viewers to know?

Rell: "The Come Up" will drop this summer [20X] if you go get that you're winning and two steps ahead of these suckas . Its essential if youre flying and if you didn't already know , you're already slow . It's just the beginning because I've got more music coming your way . One time to Two L's on a cloud for showing love . I appreciate all the support from the fans and even the salt shakers . If I were to give some advice , it would be that it's easier to be yourself than to try and keep up with a fascade of being something or someone you're not . As an artist, if you're gonna bite someone elses style or run off with there moniker (slogan) , it's [somewhat] flattering but pay homage & give credit to the Swag Donor. Last thing , it's not cool to be dumb , the more you know the futher you go . And with that said it's still "Long Live The FLY."
